-"Just one word: plastics. Photographer captivated by simple Holga"

-Video of talk at B&H Photo in New York

This is a 40-min segment of a 2-hour talk & Q&A I did at B&H Photo's Event Space on January 21st, 2009. It includes a section on some of my projects (some are edited out), the world of toy cameras, and some Q&A. My talks usually include showing a wider range of my work, and photos by a variety of other plastic camera photographers - this is a taste.

-Radio interview on KUOW's Sound Focus

I was interviewed for KUOW's fantastic arts program, Sound Focus, on June 12th, 2008. It's a great 9-minute interview about Holgas, how I came to love them, and the place low-tech photography and art have in people's lives.
It's available here: Listen to the interview or online: Sound Focus's site. To skip to my bit, it's at minute 43:30.

Their blurb:
At 2:50 p.m. – The Art of the Holga A professional digital camera can cost you over five thousand dollars. A plastic toy camera called a Holga will run you about twenty five bucks. At that price, you may not expect the Holga to do much. But local photographer Michelle Bates has staked a good part of her career on this mass market Chinese gadget. She writes about the Holga and shares some of her Holga photos in her book, Plastic Cameras, Toying with Creativity.
